What is Google My Business?

Google My Business (GMB) is a free tool that lets you manage how your business appears on Google Search and Maps. That includes adding your business name, location, and timings, monitoring and replying to customer reviews; adding photos; learning where and how people are searching for you, and more.

Create a Google My Business Listing

  • Log in to the Google Account you want to be associated with your business.
  •  Go to
  • Enter your business name and click Add your business to Google.
  • Choose the category that fits your business best.
  • You can add a physical location of your office/shop so your customers can visit. If you have a virtual office you can select NO.
  • If you provide service to customers at their location, instead of customers coming to your office or shop then you can select a delivery area.
  • Select your region.
  • Update your contact details and website URL if any. If you do not have a website you can create one for free with the GMB site. Update contact details correctly so customers will face any issues finding your business. If you wish to hide the contact details
  • Final step: Click on finish and manage your listing

How to Verify Your Business on Google

Ensure the accuracy of your business information across Google.

Verification protects you from anyone who might try to pose as a representative of your business. You must verify your business before you can edit your business information on Google products.

It depends on what kind of business listing you are trying to create/manage.

There are several ways to verify your Google My Business listing:

  • By postcard
  • Via phone
  • Email
  • Instant verification
  • Bulk verification

Postcard Verification

Most of the business owners will have to wait for the postcard with the verification code to be mailed to the mentioned address.

Make sure your business address is accurate and add a contact name, that’s who the postcard will be addressed to. Postcard usually takes 12 days to arrive.

Once you receive the postcard, you will need to visit, login into my business, and click on Verify now.

Submit the five-digit verification code on your postcard in the code field.

If your postcard has never arrived, or you lose it, you can request a new code by signing in to Google My Business and select the “Request another code”.

You are business is now verified and ready to update your business information, respond to reviews, and add photos.

Phone verification

If you are eligible for phone verification, Google will give you the option “Verify by phone”. Make sure your phone number is correct.

Select option “Verify by phone” and you will receive the verification code by text.

Email verification

If you can see an option “Verify by email”, click on the verify by email. No open your inbox and click on the email from Google My Business, and click the verification button in the email.

Instant verification

If you have already verified your business with Google Search Console, you will be able to instantly verify by email. Some business categories are not eligible for instant verification, in that case, you will have to select the option to verify by a different method.

Bulk verification

If your business has more than 10 locations, then you might be eligible for bulk verification.

Login to your GMB page, choose a location, and click on Get Verified. 

Select “Chain”

You will have to fill out the verification form with Business name, locations, phone number, business manager email, and submit the verification form.

It takes around 10 days to review and process your claim.

Once you have verified your business listing, now you can optimize your presence online.

Keep your business information current with accurate and timely information. You can create your welcome post, add photos and videos. 

Update your business profile photo and cover photo. According to Google, businesses with photos see more clicks to their website and higher requests for driving directions in Maps. 

Upload Office/Shop pictures to make your listing more informative and engaging to your customers.

The benefit of getting positive reviews from your customers is that it will help your listing rank high on local search results. 

Google reviews will help you convert more customers, so always encourage customers for feedback via Google reviews and respond to every review. You should also respond to negative reviews to show you take all your customers seriously and make a deal with unhappy customers.
